Deploying Windows 7 – Removal of MDT 2010 Screens

If you watched the video in my last post then you will have noticed that there are quite a few installation screens in MDT 2010, a lot of these you don’t really need.

Well this post explains how to set the installation settings and remove most of the screens.

MDT 2010 Screen Removal

Right click on the Deployment Share and select Properties

In the next windows click on the Rules tab

The default rules don’t really do much but you can add to these to script answers for each screen and then decide if you want that screen to show or not.

The text below is taken from our system and hides every screen apart from the computer name, task sequence selection and time zone selection

image

Once you have entered the text (replacing your domain name etc) then click Apply

You now need to click on the Edit Bootstrap.ini button and replace the text. Shown below is the text taken from our system which you will need to alter for you own domain

Save your changes and close the bootstrap.ini file

Click OK and the Deployment Share Properties

Update Deployment Share

Making changes like the ones made above require you to update the deployment share and rebuild the boot images.

Right click on the MDT Deployment Share and select Update Deployment Share

image

Select Completely regenerate the boot images and click Next twice

Once the update process has completed click on Finish

Boot Image

Once the update process has finished you will need to re-assign the boot images to Windows Deployment Services

Expand Windows Deployment Services | Boot Images and delete the current boot image, then right click on boot images and select Add Boot Image

image

Browse for the location where MDT 2010 stores its boot images and select the x86 .wim file and click Next

image

Enter a name and description for the boot image and click Next twice

Once you boot your bare metal PC your installation should only have three screens for you to input details into.

The video below shows what it should look like.
